Quick Update on Bentley’s ♥️

Hi everyone! I know it has been a while since I’ve put anything up. We’ve been keeping busy and enjoying our summer. This week Bentley was supposed to have surgery but it has been rescheduled. I’ll explain below. Just know that I’m grateful for all our friends and family and the support you have showed us these past couple weeks. Thank You!

So we originally prepared for Bentley to  have his  PA Band tightened six months after his first surgery.  Then next year evaluate and see if he was a candidate for the double switch surgery. When we went to his cardiology follow-up in July to schedule the band tightening we were told that the pressure wasn’t what they were hoping  and that it didn’t look like Bentley would be a good candidate for the double switch surgery right now. They decided that he would still need to get his band tightened to attempt to make his heart stronger. So we scheduled his surgery for September 13.

Fast forward to last week, Bentley had a cardio check up in preparation for surgery. The next day the surgeons at the hospital discussed him and reviewed his case. I received a call shortly after explaining that they would like to do some additional tests to see if he would be a candidate for a double switch right away.  So we scheduled a CT scan and a cardiac cath procedure. The results of those two tests would be discussed and a surgery plan would be all presented to us.

Then a couple days before he was to go in for his  CT scan he caught a cold (which was frustrating because we had been keeping him in away from other kids and germs for a couple weeks already in prep for the surgery). For the cardiac cath they put him completely under anesthesia and they don’t want to if he’s sick because it could cause other issues. Sooo we had to reschedule everything.  We don’t have a specific date, but we do know that his CT Scan and cardiac cath will be mid October. After they do the tests they will then decide what surgery he needs, and schedule it shortly after.

So that’s where we are sitting right now. I still am hesitant to bring him out and be around people, I don’t want him to get sick. I don’t think I can handle it if they have to reschedule it again. He is doing great. He is such a happy fun active little guy and even if I go stir crazy being at home all day I’m grateful I get to spend it with Bentley and Hadley. I know Heavenly Father is in control, and he is orchestrating this whole process to the very last note. And I am learning to trust him and stay optimistic.

We won’t be around much the next couple of months We are trying to keep Bentley as healthy as possible  and prepare ourselves for upcoming surgery. Thank you for all the prayers and well wishes sent our way this week. I will be sure to update everyone in october when we know better what will happen!

Love Always
The Richards Family♥️.

Bentley's Heart-March 6, 2018

Since moving to Tracy, I have realized that a lot of people aren't aware of Bentleys heart. Not that I don't want people to know, I just have a hard time bringing it up. Before I update his condition, I'll just give a little background on what it is. Bentley was born with a rare heart condition called Congenitally corrected transposition of the great arteries (cctga). The easy way to explain it is the arteries on his heart are switched, the larger artery which is supposed pump blood to his body, is pumping blood to his lungs, and the smaller artery which is supposed to pump blood to his lungs, is pumping the blood to his body.  Cctga comes in 3 forms and Bentley has the most rare. His Cctga also causes him to have a heart block, which just means his the top and bottom of his heart aren't beating in sync, causing his heart to beat at a slower rate.  Most of the times when diagnosed with Cctga kids have other major issues with their hearts and need open hear...

Family of 🖐🏻!

Welcome Emmet Stanford!! Born on May12 at 2:25am. Weighing 8 lbs 14oz, 21 inches long! We welcomed our newest addition, Emmet! Here is his birth story, it’s a short one this time around which is fine with me😊  The kids are enamored by him and we all love him so much! We were expecting him early because of my history with Bentley and Hadley, my doctor thought he would make his appearance earlier than later. My mom and sister were able to stay at home and quarantine for two weeks so they could be here when the baby came and watch Bentley and Hadley. We had them come May 1, because were were sure I would go into labor around then. However Emmet decided to take his time and didn’t come until I was 40+1. I was definitely ready! It was kind of a scary quick labor. I wasn’t sure we would make it to the hospital. I woke up around midnight with a contraction, but it wasn’t too bad and was able to fall asleep for an hour.  At one I woke up again with a stronger contraction, an...
