Hadleys Birth Story

Previously having a c-section with Bentley, my Dr. gave me the option to have another C-section or try for a VBAC. Not wanting to go past my due date we scheduled a C-section, but if she decided to come earlier we would try for the VBAC. And that is exactly what happened, she came exactly 1 week before her due date! It started on Sunday March 26. There was an employee get together for my work, where we got to ride around downtown Scottsdale in one of those 12 person bicycle thigs and tour the city and eat ice-cream. Being very pregnant I wasn't sure if it was something I wanted to do, but Alex came along and decided to go.So we dropped Bentley off at our friends and went. On our tour we passed by the hospital I was going to give birth at and everyone joked that they should just drop me off and save me the trip. Little did they know about an hour after we got home my water broke! It was about 10:30PM. I called my sister and she came to stay with Bentley as Alex and I went to the hospital.
Tour of Scottdale

I was dialated at a 4, but still hadn't started contracting yet. They had my walk around the hospital to try and get Labor moving. But still nothing. We went back to the room and I had Alex sleep ( he had worked the overnight the previous night and still hadn't slept at this point). At around 2 AM I was still the same, no change. So as Alex slept I decided to go for a walk again. After an hour walking still no change and no contractions that I could feel. At this point I decided I was just going to try and get some sleep. Around 4 AM my Dr. decided to put me on pitocin, to get things moving.

By 11 AM still no progress. They took me off the pitocin so I could eat some lunch. They brought me a sandwich, chips and juice. After I was finished they put me back on the pitocin. Around 3pm, nothing had changed. I was still dilated at a 4, and not feeling any contractions. (on the monitor it said I was having small ones, but not big enough for me to feel). Around 4Pm my DR.  came back and found that all of my waters were not broken. So she broke the rest of my waters and then things started moving! About 30 minutes later I can start to feel contractions and by 5pm I decided to get an epidural. After I was comfortable I decided to rest while I completed dilating.  Around 8PM my doctor comes back and decides it time to push! I started to push around 8:15 and at 8:41, Hadley was born! Only 22 hours of labor:)
We didn't end up getting to our room until after midnight, where we were both finally able to get some rest.  My sister Brought Bentley the next afternoon to meet his sister. He wasn't  thrilled to meet her and didnt want to stay long. But I did get 20 seconds to snap some pictures.

Hadleys jaundice was really high and we ended up staying an extra day with her under the lights. she had lost 10% of her body weight so they wanted to make sure it was under control before we went home.

We finally got to come on Thursday night
My mom did come on Tuesday morning she helped out so much with Bentley and Hadley, I am grateful for her and Chelsy and all that they did to take care of us.

Once we got home we had to check Hadleys Bili levels every other day until they were within normal range, but other than that she is doing great. I had a little harder recovery, I had a terrible pain in my bum so I went to the doctor to get my stitches checked thinking that was the problem, but the doctor told me I just gave birth and was going to be in pain. But later that night the pain got worse and started having the pain shoot into my leg. So I had my sister drive me to the emergency room where the Doctor there told me that I had sciatica and gave me some pain killers to help.  But all is well now! We are home and so happy that Hadley is here with us! Even Bentley is getting the idea that Hadley is staying with us, and starting to show more affection:)

Love Always
Alex, Lezlie, Bentley, and new addition Hadley <3

Family of πŸ–πŸ»!

Welcome Emmet Stanford!! Born on May12 at 2:25am. Weighing 8 lbs 14oz, 21 inches long! We welcomed our newest addition, Emmet! Here is his birth story, it’s a short one this time around which is fine with me😊  The kids are enamored by him and we all love him so much! We were expecting him early because of my history with Bentley and Hadley, my doctor thought he would make his appearance earlier than later. My mom and sister were able to stay at home and quarantine for two weeks so they could be here when the baby came and watch Bentley and Hadley. We had them come May 1, because were were sure I would go into labor around then. However Emmet decided to take his time and didn’t come until I was 40+1. I was definitely ready! It was kind of a scary quick labor. I wasn’t sure we would make it to the hospital. I woke up around midnight with a contraction, but it wasn’t too bad and was able to fall asleep for an hour.  At one I woke up again with a stronger contraction, an...

The Richards family is on the move!

The last time I posted was over a year ago! Like the rest of the world this year was anything but ordinary. We did however all grow a year older, and we learned to adapt the best we could to our new way of life.  With COVID, a new baby and Bentleys heart we tried to be extra cautious. We spent a lot of time at home together, a lot of time going to the beach and different parks together. We worshipped each Sunday from our living room over zoom and had many Facetime and Skype calls with our families. We turned a bedroom into a home office while Alex worked form home, and our living room into a virtual classroom for Bentley while he did his entire first grade year. Hadley and I did some mommy pre-school. And Emmet was just the happiest baby that went along with it all (while growing up way too fast!)  During the past year we have had our fair share of disappointments and joyful moments, but through them all we have grown. Grown closer in our relationships with each other an...

Life would be boring without change!

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!!! Hello! I know I say this every time but it’s been awhile since our last post and so much has changed for our family in the last few months! But the top three changes are: 1-We found out we were expecting! 2- Alex got a new job (same company), and 3- We moved to San Diego!  I’ll just summarize by month and add lots of picturesπŸ˜ƒ June/July We had a nice relaxing summer, we stayed home and tried to get back into a routine and normal life post hospital. We did go to the children’s museum lots and played outside. We also put Hadley in some dance classes and Bentley in Swimming and soccer to keep them busy. Bentley also lost two teeth!  August Bentley started kindergarten! I can’t Believe he is old enough to go to school! But he loves school and loved his teacher, I hope he doesn’t grow out of his love for learning. We also took a weekend trip to Monterey where we went to the beach and went to t...
