Hadleys Birth Story

Previously having a c-section with Bentley, my Dr. gave me the option to have another C-section or try for a VBAC. Not wanting to go past my due date we scheduled a C-section, but if she decided to come earlier we would try for the VBAC. And that is exactly what happened, she came exactly 1 week before her due date! It started on Sunday March 26. There was an employee get together for my work, where we got to ride around downtown Scottsdale in one of those 12 person bicycle thigs and tour the city and eat ice-cream. Being very pregnant I wasn't sure if it was something I wanted to do, but Alex came along and decided to go.So we dropped Bentley off at our friends and went. On our tour we passed by the hospital I was going to give birth at and everyone joked that they should just drop me off and save me the trip. Little did they know about an hour after we got home my water broke! It was about 10:30PM. I called my sister and she came to stay with Bentley as Alex and I went to the hospital.
Tour of Scottdale

I was dialated at a 4, but still hadn't started contracting yet. They had my walk around the hospital to try and get Labor moving. But still nothing. We went back to the room and I had Alex sleep ( he had worked the overnight the previous night and still hadn't slept at this point). At around 2 AM I was still the same, no change. So as Alex slept I decided to go for a walk again. After an hour walking still no change and no contractions that I could feel. At this point I decided I was just going to try and get some sleep. Around 4 AM my Dr. decided to put me on pitocin, to get things moving.

By 11 AM still no progress. They took me off the pitocin so I could eat some lunch. They brought me a sandwich, chips and juice. After I was finished they put me back on the pitocin. Around 3pm, nothing had changed. I was still dilated at a 4, and not feeling any contractions. (on the monitor it said I was having small ones, but not big enough for me to feel). Around 4Pm my DR.  came back and found that all of my waters were not broken. So she broke the rest of my waters and then things started moving! About 30 minutes later I can start to feel contractions and by 5pm I decided to get an epidural. After I was comfortable I decided to rest while I completed dilating.  Around 8PM my doctor comes back and decides it time to push! I started to push around 8:15 and at 8:41, Hadley was born! Only 22 hours of labor:)
We didn't end up getting to our room until after midnight, where we were both finally able to get some rest.  My sister Brought Bentley the next afternoon to meet his sister. He wasn't  thrilled to meet her and didnt want to stay long. But I did get 20 seconds to snap some pictures.

Hadleys jaundice was really high and we ended up staying an extra day with her under the lights. she had lost 10% of her body weight so they wanted to make sure it was under control before we went home.

We finally got to come on Thursday night
My mom did come on Tuesday morning she helped out so much with Bentley and Hadley, I am grateful for her and Chelsy and all that they did to take care of us.

Once we got home we had to check Hadleys Bili levels every other day until they were within normal range, but other than that she is doing great. I had a little harder recovery, I had a terrible pain in my bum so I went to the doctor to get my stitches checked thinking that was the problem, but the doctor told me I just gave birth and was going to be in pain. But later that night the pain got worse and started having the pain shoot into my leg. So I had my sister drive me to the emergency room where the Doctor there told me that I had sciatica and gave me some pain killers to help.  But all is well now! We are home and so happy that Hadley is here with us! Even Bentley is getting the idea that Hadley is staying with us, and starting to show more affection:)

Love Always
Alex, Lezlie, Bentley, and new addition Hadley <3

Bentley's Heart-March 6, 2018

Since moving to Tracy, I have realized that a lot of people aren't aware of Bentleys heart. Not that I don't want people to know, I just have a hard time bringing it up. Before I update his condition, I'll just give a little background on what it is. Bentley was born with a rare heart condition called Congenitally corrected transposition of the great arteries (cctga). The easy way to explain it is the arteries on his heart are switched, the larger artery which is supposed pump blood to his body, is pumping blood to his lungs, and the smaller artery which is supposed to pump blood to his lungs, is pumping the blood to his body.  Cctga comes in 3 forms and Bentley has the most rare. His Cctga also causes him to have a heart block, which just means his the top and bottom of his heart aren't beating in sync, causing his heart to beat at a slower rate.  Most of the times when diagnosed with Cctga kids have other major issues with their hearts and need open hear...

Bentley surgery update ♥️

Before I was able to update the blog about Bentley’s surgery it got moved up! Surgery was scheduled for November 28. Then on Wednesday of last week the surgeons office called and said they would need to move his surgery later date. However that had a last minute opening on Friday and asked if that would be enough time. We have already been waiting for a couple months so we said we could do Friday!  So here I am writing this on my phone from the hospital. 🙂 Let me back up a little bit. The week of November 3 Bentley had a series of tests and procedures to see if he would be a candidate for the double switch surgery. My awesome mother in law came out and took care of Hadley while we were in and out of the hospital that week.  He ended up not being a candidate yet, the pressure in his artery still needed to be a little higher before they would consider him a candidate,  so we proceeded with our previous plan of just tightening his PA Band.  When we found out ou...
